Projects
DARLANTUS
My BIGGEST/Current projet is a Massively-Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG) called
Darlantus. I started the project in 2005. Working on it for
8-12 hours a day for about 10 months before running in to a few walls, and getting burned out.
The biggest issue was "How fun is an MMO when you have to keep RELOADING the entire page just to
see the Health Point update? Or, NOT being able to see other players/monsters moving around
the map UNLESS you manually click [refresh] ?" -- finally, I got re-inspired again in early 2007
when AJAX started really hitting the scene, and I finally took the plunge. Most all the interface
code has been totally rewritten, and the project currently stands at over 8,000 lines of perl code
alone (not to mention 300 lines of JavaScript, CSS, a pretty good size MySQL database, and more).
I appreciate ANY feedback i can get on it, so log in, create a character, and let me know what you think!
Here are a few Open Source projects I am also working on or have worked on:
David's Perl Games A collection of ASCII/curses based games I've written using Perl.
Stratagus A free fantasy real-time strategy game engine based on WarCraft/StarCraft
GRAB RPM installation tool used for searching, downloading, and dependancy resolution of RPM packages residing on FTP servers, written in Perl.
